This upcoming weekend Oct 12&13, is the 51st Annual Historic Pullman House Tour. I attended it a couple of years ago and it was fascinating! There was so much history to learn and I have several personal connections to Pullman. One of my sisters had her wedding reception at Hotel Florence (opening photo). Both the setting and celebration were spectacular! Friends of mine lead the preservation and restoration of the Historic Pullman Foundation’s Exhibit Hall. While I was on the tour, I found out that one of the houses belonged to a grammar school friend. And I ran into a former co-worker who was volunteering and, unknown to me, lived there as well. Small world!
If you can make the house walk this year, you’ll learn these interesting things about Pullman: It was America’s first planned industrial model community, how the Pullman Strike of 1894 formed the labor movement, how passenger rail travel changed in America, and the critical role of the Black culture.
